Polystyrene Recycling yes we can…….
To preserve the Polystyrene densifier machine and produce a quality uncontaminated product it is necessary that the polystyrene receive is as clean and uncontaminated as possible.
The polystyrene is fed into the machine, it is broken down and shredded and then heated to produce a paste which is fed out of the machine, cools and hardens to form an ingot. The size of the polystyrene decreases by 90% through the recycling process.
The ingots are consolidated in a container and exported to Malaysia where they are heated, extruded and converted into raw material pellets. These pellets are used to manufacture picture and mirror frames for a global market.
We can accept:
- Pure clean Polystyrene
- A tiny bit of paper or cardboard attached to polystyrene is OK as it will burn off during processing
- White or colored (not black)
- Polystyrene dust / beads (expanded form only)
We can not accept:
- Polystyrene-hybrids: Polystyrene mixed with other materials: i.e.: cement plaster etc.
- Dirty or contaminated Polystyrene: Polystyrene with glue, tape, labels, sand, paint, metal attached to, packed with, or mixed polystyrene.
- Black Polystyrene: The machine manufacturer has advised us not to process this as it would contaminate the machine.
- EPS Virgin Beads: The machine cannot process these as they contain pentane and are condensed.
Need to know:
- Cost is worked out per 100gms of Polystyrene
- Minimum charge of 70c 100gms
- Drop off area is at the main Trash Palace site not at the Recycling facility
